However, what moved us the most was the kindness of its people, so warm and always with a sincere smile on their lips. <strong>The smile of the East<\/strong>, as it\u2019s called\u2026 That alone made landing in this city worthwhile. A curious thing about this place, something I hadn\u2019t experienced in any other country before, was the feeling of being a Hollywood celebrity: locals stopped us on the street to ask for a photo, which they\u2019d later share with their families and friends. In those days, I must have been the most recognized and shared face across the entire island of Java, haha! Impossible to say no to those smiles\u2026 <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-size: 14.4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mostacitamoraita.com\/wp-content\/themes\/Divi\/includes\/builder\/frontend-builder\/assets\/vendors\/plugins\/emoticons\/img\/smiley-smile.gif\" alt=\"smile\" \/><\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n\n\t<div id=\"col-363754538\" class=\"col small-12 large-12\"  >\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col-inner\"  >\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our journey took us to <strong><u>Yogyakarta<\/u><\/strong>, the cultural epicenter of the magical island of Java. There, the city\u2019s energy was completely different; the people felt deeply connected to nature. Our guides taught us the secrets of crops, plants, and flowers, and we immersed ourselves in the ancestral wisdom of its people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And what can I say about the craftsmanship of this place\u2026 Their works of art, woven with threads of light and polished with the magic of centuries, left us breathless. The mastery of its artisans is truly admirable. On cotton or silk fabrics, these skilled weavers draw patterns with hot wax before dipping them in vegetable dyes. The wax acts as a \u201cbarrier,\u201d resisting the dyes and allowing the selection of colors without mixing. After its creation, the wax is removed with hot water, allowing the process to be repeated as many times as desired. The designs are truly captivating; floral compositions, mandalas, landscapes, and spiritual elements that express the creativity and spirituality of the Indonesian people through the symbolism of their colors and patterns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this beautiful creative process, the artisans apply the wax with a tool called \u201ctjanting,\u201d forged from the purest copper. With this magical wand, molten hot wax is poured, shaping the artwork in the crucible of fire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Isn\u2019t it wonderful? <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mostacitamoraita.com\/wp-content\/themes\/Divi\/includes\/builder\/frontend-builder\/assets\/vendors\/plugins\/emoticons\/img\/smiley-smile.gif\" alt=\"smile\" \/> I was so enchanted watching how it was done that I couldn\u2019t resist trying it myself. And, as it couldn\u2019t be otherwise, I had to get one, contributing to the flourishing of the community (hehe).<\/p>\n<p>In the image, you can see the Sarong I chose for the occasion, wearing it proudly on my birthday and displaying it with pride at the entrance of the temples.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think of that combination of mustard and mauve tones? There, in awe, I admired peanut fields, uncovered the mysteries of rice paddies, and shared the experience of weaving a carpet with my own hands. We also visited a tempeh and tofu factory, but it wasn\u2019t a standard factory like those found in Europe. In fact, the facilities were in the \u201chome\u201d of a local, where artisanal tools, pots, cloth rags, and pieces of wood were used, without machinery or additives.<\/p>\n<p><em>Did you know there\u2019s a difference between these two soy-based products?<\/em> While tempeh requires several days of fermentation to achieve its consistency, tofu is made by pressing cooked soy milk without the need for fermentation. I must confess I declined the offer to try a glass of raw soy milk they offered me\u2026 I would\u2019ve had to run to the bathroom instantly, trust me!<\/p>\n<p>Later, we immersed ourselves in the grandeur of \u201cLoro Jonggrang,\u201d the sacred Hindu temple of Java, whose majesty is unparalleled. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this sanctuary is the largest in Indonesia and one of the most imposing in Southeast Asia.
